CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Chicago, IL – Local Projects

Our client, an established family-owned construction and development company, is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee sophisticated commercial projects throughout the Chicago area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on field leader who can independently manage projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate has strong experience with high-end retail tenant improvements and restaurant buildouts, excellent employment tenure, and the ability to represent the company professionally with clients and project stakeholders.

This position is intended for candidates already based in the Chicagoland area. Projects are primarily local, with only rare short-duration travel when necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee assigned construction projects from mobilization through successful completion
• Direct and supervise subcontractors, consultants, and vendors on a daily basis
• Coordinate manpower, inspections, schedules, materials, and site activities
• Maintain responsibility for jobsite safety, quality control, and project scheduling
• Confirm that subcontractors comply with their contracted scopes of work
• Review project drawings, RFIs, material submittals, and shop drawings
• Identify conflicts between project plans and actual field conditions
• Coordinate inspections with local jurisdictions and ensure sites are inspection-ready
• Enforce safety requirements, building codes, permits, and quality standards
• Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings
• Maintain daily logs, progress reports, safety reports, job-status reports, and three-week look-ahead schedules
• Communicate project progress and field issues to project managers, clients, architects, and consultants
• Ensure deficiencies and punch-list items are corrected promptly
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professionally managed jobsite

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of three years of verifiable experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent
• Required experience with high-end retail tenant improvements and restaurant buildouts
• Demonstrated ability to manage commercial projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
• Strong knowledge of construction trades, sequencing, quality control, and jobsite safety
• Proficiency with Procore and construction scheduling software; Outbuild experience is preferred
• Familiarity with PlanGrid, Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook
• Excellent organization, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Strong and stable employment history; candidates with frequent job changes will not be considered
• Must currently reside in or be established within the Chicagoland area
• Must be able to provide a detailed five-year project list

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in:

• Luxury or high-end commercial construction
• Complex restaurant buildouts
• High-end retail tenant improvements
• Hospitality construction
• Multifamily new construction or rehabilitation projects
